Making Ovarian Cancer a Global Priority

Making Ovarian Cancer a Global Priority

Part of the Global Ovarian Cancer Charter Summit Series

Global incidence of ovarian cancer is predicted to increase by almost 50% by 2050, with developing economies bearing the greatest burden. Together, what can we do to prevent this from happening? This is the key question behind the Making Ovarian Cancer a Global Priority virtual event hosted by the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Chaired by BBC World Service Health Check presenter Claudia Hammond, this 90-minute interactive event will bring together a global panel of patient advocacy and clinical experts to discuss ways the global ovarian cancer community, including patient advocacy organizations, can address the worrying gap. Attendees of the event will have the opportunity to contribute to the discussion. Panellists include:

  • Elisabeth Baugh, Chair, World Ovarian Cancer Coalition and CEO of Ovarian Cancer Canada
  • Georgia Fontes Cintra, Gynecologic Oncologist, Hospital Sírio Libanes, Brasilia and IGCS International Mentor in Mozambique
  • Dorothy Lombe, MD, clinical and radiation oncologist, Cancer Diseases Hospital, Zambia
  • Asima Mukhopadhyay, Consultant and Honorary Associate, NGOC, Gateshead and Newcastle University, UK, Honorary consultant, Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute, Kolkata, India
  • Julie Torode, Special Projects Director, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)
  • Dicey (Mary) Scroggins, MA, Director of Global Outreach and Engagement, International Gynecological Cancer Society (IGCS)
  • Isabelle Soejorataram, Deputy Section Head, Section of Cancer Surveillance, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)

Making Ovarian Cancer a Global Priority is the first of five events in the Global Charter Summit Series hosted by the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition. The Series aims to highlight opportunities to make progress towards implementation of the Global Ovarian Cancer Charter.
