Transforming Engagement into Higher Screening Rates

How an early phase CNS study sustained engagement to increase their share of high-performing sites.

Enhance Site Performance

A phase ll CNS study on Teckro implemented an iterative, targeted approach to better engage their sites and improve overall study outcomes. Teckro data consistently demonstrates the relationship between high engagement and improved performance against typical study metrics.

This study was no exception – analysis of activated sites shows that sites with screening activity have 56% more tracked study engagements than sites without screening activity.

The sponsor grew their share of high performing sites, which we see reflected in screening rates. The graph here shows a 215% increase in average screening rate for the latter 3 months versus the first 3 months.

Grow and Sustain Engagement

This chart displays site engagement activities for this study – with communications and with the protocol and other documents. As shown, engagement activity increased at an accelerated rate when the study team implemented targeted interventions. We'll explore these in greater detail below.

Studies on Teckro consistently chart correlated trends in engagement activity, similar to those seen here. Crucially, this analysis demonstrates that targeted study communications drive engagement, and engagement with communications drives engagement with the protocol.

So, how did the study team increase engagement and boost site performance?

Transform More Sites into High Performers

Sponsors on Teckro gain a segmented view of site performance, equipping them to make targeted, data-driven interventions. In just 2 months, this study team drove a 12ppt growth in their share of high performing sites.

At the heart of our oversight suite, the Site Performance Quadrant aggregates critical site behavior data with integrated third party data. With sites assigned to one of four segments, movement is tracked within the quadrant. This allows analysis against leading indicators of engagement in combination with study recruitment metrics, producing a validated measure of performance.

Equipped with segmented data, this study team deployed a series of interventions to better support sites with potential and drive growth in their high-performers, helping to drive screening rates while mitigating the risk of rescue scenarios.

Unlock Site Potential with Targeted Interventions

Though highly engaged, as only 18% of their potential performers had screened, the study team devised a targeted communications plan, sending at least 1 country-specific, milestone-aligned message per week through Teckro.

These communications provided identified sites with recruitment updates, screening tips, and even defined goals to encourage competitive screening - all with links that channeled sites directly to the digitized study protocol on Teckro. The communications achieved an average 61% site open rate, keeping the study top-of-mind, and sites active in the protocol.

Embrace Outcome-Focused Initiatives

In addition, the study team sent a site survey to help inform the next protocol amendment. The study team held an assumption around the low feasibility of remote blood sample collection, but the Teckro survey results showed that nearly half of sites would prefer remote collections.

This study team gained insight on protocol mandated assessments prior to finalizing a new protocol. The protocol amendment would now accommodate remote collection if feasible. This demonstrates consideration of site preference and supports productivity, unlocking site performance.

Avoid Rescue through Sub-Segment Analysis

Teckro also conducted a deeper analysis on sites in the low performer segment of the Site Performance Quadrant. Low performer sites have no screening activity in the last 90 days and no recent engagement with study communications or documents.

Our analysis sub-segmented new and non-performing sites in addition to recent and lapsed performers; taking a closer look at engagement within each sub-segment.

This provided detailed insight into site performance against granular criteria. The study team were able to make data-driven interventions, such as the targeted engagement communications we saw earlier.

The sponsor is also equipped to make informed continuation decisions on sites that have never engaged or screened, and can easily drill into key outcome metrics across the Quadrant to measure the ROI of interventions.
